Spenser Tunick: Mass Nudity

Spenser Tunick is an American artist who was born on January 1, 1967. He was born in Middletown, Orange Country. His is famous for pictures depicting mass nudity. His has installed many pictures throughout the world which have naked or semi naked people posing in them to make artistic formations. Most of his installations have been placed in the urban parts of the world. This does not mean that his work is limited to cities only; he also has many beach and woodland installations to his credit. The unique style of working and art forms has made Spenser Tunick subject of three documentaries running at HBO. These documentaries are Naked States, Naked World and positively naked.
The most interesting part of the pictures is that all the models that pose naked in them are unpaid volunteers. The only reward they get is a copy of the limited edition photograph. Spenser Tunick graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. His early works have pictures of single nudes or small groups of nude people. He even had pictures of nude people in public places. The older photographs had very intimate positions captured in them which are very different from what he is known for. Earlier he was restricted to the streets of his own city only but later on he became an internationally renowned photographer and therefore he has his installations in many different countries.
There are many famous installations to his name that have been placed allover the world. One of his most famous and the largest one is of seven thousand people posing naked in Barcelona. This photograph was taken in the year 2003. the largest of all the installations that have been placed in the United States is the one which has two thousand seven hundred and fifty four naked people posing for a photograph in Cleveland, Ohio. This photograph was taken on twenty six June in 2004. There are many other such installations which have people posing to bring out mass nudity.
Spenser Tunick has taken pictures not only in halls and gardens but in many different locations such as inside trains, bridges, dams, public centers, plazas, and many similar interesting places. Spenser Tunick also clicked photographs to make people aware of the effects of global warming. He did this by the help of six hundred nude people to form a “living sculpture” on the Aletsch Glacier. This photograph was taken in August 2007 when the temperature outside was about ten degrees Celsius. Spenser Tunick had even planned a photo shoot for the football tournament Euro- Cup. He had planned to take a photograph of two thousand and eight people for depicting the Euro Cup being held in 2008, but unfortunately only one thousand eight hundred and sixty volunteers actually shoed up for the shoot.
